ABSTRACT

This article was categorised in the introductory chapter as adopting a multivariate approach to researching quality issues. The research involved administering a questionnaire to 213 undergraduate students at one UK higher education institution. The questionnaire asked the students to rate their lecturer in terms of twelve items: six to do with the lecturer’s ability, five concerning the attributes of the module or course they were studying, and a final item assessing whether their lecturer had charisma. The data collected was then subjected to factor analysis, and a model produced of teaching effectiveness and charisma.
