ABSTRACT

Work with the whole class. Tell the children that you are going to help them to improve their mental powers and in particular their mathematical memory! Have individual wipe boards and pens available for all children. A flip chart will be useful to you, because you will need to hide what you write. An electronic whiteboard is an ideal alternative. Ask the children for some of their favourite or special numbers. Ask them why they have favourites. Turn over one page of the flip chart ready to hide the

numbers later on. On a clean flip chart page, write down about 10 or 12 of their favourite numbers (probably best to keep most of them to single-or two-digit numbers, first time round). Keep the numbers well separated on the flip chart and place them in a completely random way.
