The Paradox of Knowability

This is a paradox only for those – so-called verificationists or antirealists – who believe that any truth is knowable in principle. Such a view is supported by the consideration that the meanings of our words are determined by the way we use them, so that we must be able to recognize when they are correctly applied, and in particular must have the capacity to recognize when our statements are true.
