ABSTRACT

Work breakdown structure (WBS) and organizational breakdown structure (OBS) are methods of grouping activities by a coding system. They are very fancy names for a simple idea. The problem that these methods try to solve is volume. No, not the knob on the TV-but the number of tasks in the project. It is not unusual to have 300 or 400 tasks in a project, and 1000 are not uncommon. There is the odd project with 10000 tasks, but these are mercifully few.
