ABSTRACT

Bioactive properties of Aloe arborescens (a well-known Japanese aloe, Kidachi aloe) are discussed based on the classification of low molecular weight, high molecular weight and whole leaf extract. Both clinical studies and side-effects of the whole leaf extract are also mentioned. The application of Aloe arborescens preparations is quite different from that of Aloe barbadensis, the former of which is available as both an over-the counter drug and health food in Japan.
