In the new world of sports science, is there a place for this kind of statement? It sits oddly with the emphasis on biomechanics and on the technicalities of sports performance. In contrast to the objective language of science, it seems like journalistic licence. Is this knowledge at all? If it’s an instinct, could it ever be taught?
