ABSTRACT

In recent years the development and spread of modern technology within health care has occurred at a phenomenal rate. More highly sophisticated machines are being placed at the bedside in an attempt to provide further continuous and

accurate monitoring and in some cases to assist in the diagnostic process. Consequently, technology has become one of the major determinants that shape the delivery of critical care. This is a reciprocal relationship that will not end, and therefore, nurses should try to minimise the potentially conflicting demands of technology and the needs of humanity.
