ABSTRACT

These changes result in expanding roles for nursing, often within more technological roles (Goldman, 1999). Whilst technology should be made available to benefit patients, the importance of the humanistic approach also needs to be highlighted (Ashworth, 1990). A careful balancing of knowledge, skills and responsibilities should be undertaken together with the wider context of high dependency care. High Dependency Nursing Care has adopted a holistic style to help the reader identify components of competent, safe and sensitive practice, not only for the patients but also for their families.
