ABSTRACT

In 1925, Curran1 cauterized the sclera over the ciliary body using a red-hot galvanocautery loop. He aimed to lower intraocular pressure (IOP) by creating an artificial staphyloma to increase filtration through its spongy sclera.Weve,2 in 1932, observed that the IOP remained low after extensive diathermy over the region of the ciliary body. He used non-penetrating cyclodiathermy to treat infantile glaucoma.
