ABSTRACT

This section of the handbook deals with environmental conditions. Information on each topic is presented in a different format than in the other handbook sections because each topic area encompasses multiple methods, and no single method is favored or complete. Thus each chapter reviews the main methods used and the main methodological considerations for selecting and using methods in that topic area. Consequently, each of the topic contributions presents the rationale behind the main methods that are available, and gives advice on issues to consider in the choice and use of various methods, rather than trying to describe each method in detail or selecting just a single method. Each chapter also provides guidance on where to look for additional methodological information.
