ABSTRACT
Production and consumption of food in the twenty-first century is a complex process. Food production may occur in small-scale premises following traditional methods, in massive factory units using engineering systems such as just-in-time deliveries and in all other combinations and scales in between. Food production and consumption is also an international business, with food being imported and exported in a complex web involving fresh produce, raw materials and finished product.
