ABSTRACT

Since the automatic record of fetal movement is an ‘actogram’, and that of fetal heart rate (FHR) is a ‘cardiogram’, the author has named the record of ultrasonic Doppler fetal movement and FHR an actocardiogram. It was born in my head, and the prototype was produced with my hand from a used cardiotocography (CTG) machine1. I intended to confirm the mechanism for provoking a reactive non-stress test (NST). When I listened to the sound of the ultrasonic Doppler fetal monitor when the fetus was kicking the maternal abdomen, an idea was inspired that the sound might be a Doppler signal of the moving fetal trunk, because the ultrasound was aimed at the fetal heart and was reflected from the chest.
