ABSTRACT
Coal, oil and gas, minerals and rocks: these are typical geological resources. They are usually considered to be non-renewable, with society progressively depleting a fixed stock of each commodity. By contrast, water or air are usually termed renewable, because natural processes replenish and recondition the stock as it is used.
