ABSTRACT

Day care and outreach services were introduced at the inception of the Carisbrooke service, on a much smaller scale than our present numbers. It was initially envisaged that the need for community out-reach would be greater than that for day care. We identified the need through the clients, the majority of whom lived alone. Outreach was tailored to an individual’s needs. Staff were able to spend up to three hours with clients individually, helping them maintain social contact within their community and to help them regain and maintain contact with family members and friends. Outreach hours were also used to help with daily living tasks.
