ABSTRACT

It has often been our experience that a diagnosis of dementia in working-age adults has enormous impact and far-reaching effects. The implications for the family, finances, employment and the future can seem insurmountable. When the person affected has a concurrent illness, such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), or alcoholism, the impact of a dementia can be complex, to the person, his/her carers, family and to service providers. Those affected require appropriate information, advice and support.
