ABSTRACT

This letter is in Harley MSS. 6849, f. 195. It enables us to date Barrow’s letter requesting a “christian and peaceable conference with some learned and moderate persons” as March 26 or 27, 1593. It reveals Egerton’s concern to keep Sir John Puckering and Lord Burghley informed, and seems to indicate that of the nine known commissioners sitting in trial of Barrow, Sir Edmund Anderson, Lord Chief Justice of the Common Pleas, is the most important judge. There is a copy of this letter in Harley MSS. 7042, f. 34 verso.
