ABSTRACT
Although AIDS shares many of the characteristics of chronic disease, it also has some specific features. It is, for example, a condition for which no cure has been found despite significant treatment advance in recent years. Its chronic nature derives from its debilitating characteristics, the fact that no effective treatment is available, and uncertainty over its course of development.
