ABSTRACT
Arthur William Tedder was born at Glenguin (now Glengoyne), a distillery about 20 miles north of Glasgow, on 11 July 1890. The name Tedder, he thought, was a corruption of Tudor. ‘Henry Tedder the Eighth’, he told his first biographer, ‘is an ancestor we don’t care to mention’.1
