ABSTRACT
If we are to say anything about the relation between moral philosophy and literature we must, as Professor Nussbaum makes clear, “have some rough story about what moral philosophy and the job of moral philosophy are” (p. 40). I propose to discuss why it is difficult to characterize moral philosophy – and in particular difficult when what we are aiming at is clarity about its relation to literature.
