The Polish case

What should be noted at the start of the analysis pursued here is, unfortunately, the ad hoc statistical foundations of the study of the new private sector, or even more widely defined small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). In spite of the importance of the phenomenon in question, its statistical coverage leaves much to be desired. There is very little in the way of regular statistics on SMEs and none of the entrepreneurial private firms within the latter.
