ABSTRACT

Skeletal muscles are able to move body segments with respect to each other against internal and external resistances. Muscle components can shorten dynamically, statically retain their length, or be lengthened. Various methods and techniques are available for assessing muscular strength. The engineering application of data on available body strength requires the determination of whether minimal or maximal exertions, static or dynamic, are critical. Data on body strength are presented for the design of tools, equipment, and work tasks.
