What is nutrition? It is the study of foods, their nutrients and other components, and their effects on biological processes and health. Food plays a major cultural role in any society. Parents express love and concern by providing and preparing food for their children, and food is part of nutrition services. Nutrition practice is found in many places, including health-food stores, organic grocery stores, weight loss businesses, and traditional medical settings such as hospitals. Medical nutrition therapy is the manipulation of nutrients and dietary components to affect a disease or condition, and it is the level of nutrition service reimbursed by Medicare and other traditional health care providers.
