ABSTRACT

The women's alliance for theology, ethics and ritual (WATER) began in Silver Spring, Maryland in 1983, typewriters, albeit electric ones were essential equipment. WATER was on its way from an idea to a place where women could do people's work in religiously based social change unfettered by the demands of university or denomination. Their goal was to bring feminist religious values to the service of social change. WATER and other feminist organizations have to make the hard choices that face every group that wants to continue its mission in a rapidly changing world. WATER has a blog called WATER Voices that we encourage people's colleagues to use. This chapter contributes to some blogs as well, including the feminist studies in religion forum and feminism and religion. Blogs have the advantage of being interactive so that responses to short pieces can be instantaneous.
