ABSTRACT

It is a purpose of this final chapter to make some suggestions, in the light of the argument above, concerning the nature and role of economics as a discipline. This discussion also leads us to examine the boundaries between economics and other social sciences. Clearly, it is not possible here to outline particular theories in detail. Instead, the aim of this book is to raise discussion of the problem of historical specificity to its proper place in the social sciences. In this chapter some suggestions are made concerning the place of different types of theoretical approach, within a meta-theoretical outlook in which the problem is recognised.
