ABSTRACT
One of the future missions for AUVs will be to deliver payloads or cargoes to places that manned ships or submarines cannot operate cost-effectively or safely. Some potential cargoes include sonar arrays, underwater cables, scientific instrumentation and smaller AUVs. Areas where this requirement could arise in the near term include the continental shelf and margin, ice covered regions and sites where accurate positioning of the cargo on the seabed is required.
