ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we examine the role of talent management in business and commerce and its importance for helping organizations to realize the value locked up in their human capital resources and for helping individuals to realize their potential through their careers. The assessment of personality, whether through the formal use of measurement instruments or informally through the implicit models held by line managers and others, plays a crucial role in many talent management decisions. The choices people make about what they want to do at work and what they do not want to do, their capabilities for working with others, their task-based competencies, and the way they shape their roles are all influenced by personalities, preferences, and preferred styles of behavior.
