ABSTRACT

Student satisfaction does seem to be affected by the first contact and admissions stage, therefore getting this right is going to play a role in a student’s ongoing chance of achieving their potential. First contact can vary enormously for students from different backgrounds and it is worth spending time thinking about what ‘first contact’ might be for your students. Is it via pre-18 schools and colleges, through university summer schools, short courses or adult education programmes? It is also important to remember that for many potential applicants, first contact may now be online. And how far do these first contact activities represent a real university experience?
