ABSTRACT

In this unit we look at a selection of prepositional phrases — expressions that link objects using a preposition — in order to describe things, such as чай с лимоном ‘tea with lemon’, where the tea and the lemon are combined by means of the preposition с ‘with’. The ways to combine objects are sometimes the same as those used in equivalent phrases in English, as with ‘tea with lemon’, but not always, as, for example, with джин с тоником ‘gin and tonic’, where English uses the conjunction ‘and’ and Russian, the preposition с ‘with’.
