ABSTRACT

Since late 1990, online gaming (OLG) has become a form of popular entertainment in the East Asian market. In 2007, massive multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPGs) made up 60 percent of the market share in Taiwan, while casual games comprised the rest of the online gaming market (Liu 2008). The genre of MMORPGs in Asia can be categorized into several types, including adventure, simulation, and strategy games. Casual games are those games that are played competitively online without the existence of a persistent online realm; some casual games are as simple as online poker or Chinese Mahjong.
