ABSTRACT

I have worked as researcher and professor of the University of Bologna since the beginning of the 1960s, and for many years even in precarious positions. “Will power and commitment to the cause!” says the Non-Existent Knight in Italo Calvino's novel of the same title. My interest in adolescence-related thematics was born out of my work in the field with adolescents rather than in the lab. Experimental research and many studies, for what they are worth, came later on. When I received the invitation to collaborate in this prestigious academic volume I felt honored, though uncertain of whether I would be up to such a dignified task. On the other hand, I pondered on the real occurrences that have marked my career and here I am, giving it a try in the hope of not becoming too much of a bore.
