ABSTRACT

During my preschool years and most certainly evident during the early primary grades, I consist ently experienced an unusual level of awareness of diverse perspec tives. As a second-generation, northern-born, city-dwelling, youngest sibling of three, this propensity to be critically aware was magnified at particular historical moments. For example, exposure to discussions concerning the Supreme Court's 1954 opinion and determination of the Brown v. Board of Education Decision mattered to members of my community.
