ABSTRACT

Explanations offered to understand the practice of early marriage by the Hmong in the USA must take into account the complexity of the culture and its previous ecological environment. Early marriage is defined as a recognizable, socially sanctioned marriage that involves at least one partner who is under the age of 18. Hmong who live in the USA and in other Western countries (i.e., Australia, France, and Canada) originally migrated from Laos after the end of the Vietnam War in 1975.
