ABSTRACT

Latino adolescents constitute 15 percent (2.4 million) of the under-18 population and are now the largest minority teen group in the USA (US Census Bureau 2001a). Furthermore, the proportion of adolescent Latinos is expected to rise in the coming decades. It is expected that by 2020 one in five teenagers in the USA will be Latino (Day 1996; Dickson 2001). As their numbers grow, the well-being of this group has become a focus of public policy debate. This chapter examines pregnancy and childbearing among Latina teenagers in the USA.
