ABSTRACT

The references in the archaeological literature are based on Nandor Fettich's (1929) published plates, and dating and ethnic characterization of the finds and their archaeological range are also based on this book. The other view is that they date to the last third of the 7th century and belong to a newly established ethnic group. The graves of the second group of finds came to light on the site later, when houses were being built in 1927. The graves were situated at some distance from each other, as is usual in the cemeteries of the Avar period. Grave belonged to a man buried in a coffin, with his gold and silver belt and earring, hairplate ornament, sabre, silver cup, pottery vessels, and iron sickle all together. The Avar Khagan settled the new peoples along the border of the Avar settlement area, as was usual on the steppes.
