The Analysis of Play in Team Sports

Observing game play is a key element of team sport “didactics.” Due to the complexity of the environment, the temporal and spatial characteristics of players’ locations and movements, as well as those of the ball, game play must be analyzed in a systematic way if one wishes to obtain dependable, reliable, and useful information. This type of analysis takes into account fixed elements such as the playing surface, but also considers other variables that are controlled by players, such as the ball, play organization rules, tactics, and so on (Gréhaigne & Godbout, 1995). The meaning of players perceptions is directly linked to the force ratio.
