Do not fall into the trap of arguing with the sufferer. Listen to them and then ask questions such as:

• ‘Why are your parents worried?’ (Or, ‘Why is your partner worried?’) • ‘What exactly are they worried about?’ • ‘Are you able to join in with your friends as easily as before?’ • ‘Have you been troubled by feeling the cold?’
