Pages 13

It is our recommendation that when there is a psychotic or other severe mental health crisis that it should be normal psychiatric practice for the ®rst meeting to take place within a day of hearing about the crisis. Furthermore both the patient and family members should be invited to participate in the ®rst meeting and throughout the treatment process for as long as is needed. In these meetings all relevant professionals ± from primary care, psychiatry, from social care and from other relevant authorities ± who have contact with this family are invited to participate and openly share their thoughts and opinions about the crisis and what should be done and these professionals should stay involved for as long as help is needed. All discussions and treatment decisions should be made openly in the presence of the patient and family members.
