ABSTRACT

In this chapter I explore leading as a process and what it means to ‘lead in the moment’. I examine how leading in the moment is a necessary complement to the work of vision and strategy which is also required of leaders and I suggest that too often the anxiety of leading in the moment results in avoiding it. At the time of writing I was a director of a National Health Trust in the United Kingdom and I will explore these themes through my experience of planning and leading an alternative leadership development programme for senior staff in my organization.
