Clinical and Biochemical Studies of Idiopathic Hemochromatosis
The principal subject of this chapter is idiopathic hemochromatosis. It is the most fullblown and the purest of the iron overload conditions. But other diseases may involve varying degrees of iron overloading. As a result we will first consider the general category of iron overload states. Then we will focus on idiopathic hemochromatosis, before briefly discussing the recently raised questions concerning the possible role of the idiopathic hemochromatosis allele in certain forms of secondary hemochromatosis.
