ABSTRACT

Cystic fibrosis (CF) with an incidence of 1 in 2000 live births in populations of Caucasian descent is the most frequent lethal genetic disease among white children. It is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. 1 The basic defect in CF is not known. Clinical manifestations include abnormally high sweat eletrolytes, chronic pulmonary disease, and pancreatic deficiency. There is generalized dysfunction of exocrine glands. 13
