Leading for Creative Synthesis
A Process-Based Model for Creative Leadership

Research has begun to unravel the processes through which creative collectives can develop breakthrough new ideas; however, the role of the leader in that process has remained relatively unexamined. In this chapter, we highlight and extend one process for collective creativity by applying the creative synthesis model to the domain of leadership. We theorize about how leaders can help to guide and facilitate creative synthesis by facilitating others’ creativity, materializing the leader’s own vision, and integrating members’ contributions.
