Receptors of the Gastrointestinal Hormones and Their Development

ByJean Morisset

Cells of the digestive tract synthesize and secrete large amounts of various proteins and digestive enzymes, as well as fluids of different composition. These cells have the capacity to adapt to the changing needs of the organism by modulating their growth rate and adjusting their metabolism related to their specific functions. These adaptive changes are mediated by a variety of hormones and factors interacting with specific cellular receptors; the mechanisms of action involved in mediating and maintaining growth are not fully understood.
