ABSTRACT

Glutaredoxin is a small protein, discovered in 1976 as a glutathione (GSH)-dependent hydrogen donor for ribonucleotide reductase, from Escherichia coli. 1 Ribonucleotide reductase is the essential enzyme which catalyzes the first step in DNA synthesis by reducing all four different ribonucleotides to the corresponding deoxyribonucleotides (Figure 1).
