ABSTRACT

Initially, the focus of this paper was to be on "gay IV drug users." However, the term "gay" is a term more often used to refer to men who have exclusive relationships with men, thereby excluding bisexual men and women, lesbians, and transpersons (transsexuals, transvestites, transgenders, crossdressers, and male or female impersonators). Whereas "gay" is used by some to refer to men and women who prefer same-gender relationships, the term "sexual minority" is more inclusive of diverse lifestyles and orientations that deviate from heterosexuality.
