ABSTRACT
Many consonant phonemes have positional allophones. The fricative /f/, often realized as a bilabial [φ], is restricted to loanwords and
is in this sense marginal to the system.
Vowel phonemes
The inventory for Uzbek is the subject of considerable dispute, with a large number of allophones detectable, and different dialects presenting varying inventories. The following eight-vowel system is identifi able for certain dialects at least:

There is no phonemic vowel length in Uzbek, and there are no true diphthongs.
