Library Staff Development: How Book Clubs Can Be More Effective (and Less Expensive) than Traditional Trainings

During times of financial strain and budget cuts, training budgets are usually the first to go. In light of reduced budgets and high training costs, libraries have been looking for less expensive and more effective ways to train and develop employees. The Harold B. Lee Library (HBLL) of Brigham Young University (BYU) found that employee book clubs are simple, inexpensive tools for professional and leadership development, and that they are perhaps more effective than traditional training methods.
