ABSTRACT

During the past 20 years, a growing number of corporations have launched diversity imperatives as a response to the demands of a more global and demographically diverse workforce and marketplace. As of 1995, approximately 498 separate organizational functions within the private sector alone have been identified as being responsible for diversity concerns (Institute for Corporate Diversity, 1995). Of those cited, 117 are staffed by individuals holding the title of manager, director, or vice president of diversity. Diversity specialist, strategist, representative, and team leader are some other titles consigned to employees who work in these units.
