The Life Review: An Underutilized Strategy for Systemic Family Intervention
SUMMARY. This paper explores reflection upon the past and the potential it may hold for the systemic family practitioner. Reminiscence is viewed to be an underutilized and underinvestigated strategy for intervention with the elderly and their families. The paper includes a list of benefits for the therapist, as well as individuals and families involved in the counseling process. Systemic family therapy should make effective use of reflection upon past events in order to develop positive understanding of the complex role experience plays in avoidance of repeating past mistakes and the creation of future success.
