The Burden of Insight
SUMMARY. The nature of insight is explored with re~ard to its significance in interpersonal relatIOnships within the family context containing an adult caregiver child and one or more elderly parents. The burden of insight derives from the assumption of the responsibilities congruent with insight. While the burden is most often assumed by the adult child, the principal caregiver, it is relevant, also, for the therapist as well as the recipient of the care. The article discusses the significance of the burden of insight with regard to two major causes of family disequilibration, generational differences and the decrements of senescence.
