ABSTRACT

Thermal response of a body depends on specific absorption rate (SAR), coverage of the regulatory body, the thermoregulatory system, the physiological condition, the environment, and in the case of irradiation only on a specific body part, the vascularity in the region. Under normal circumstances, blood vessels dilate and heat is removed from the bloodstream. Therefore, the main risk of thermal damage is found in areas of low vascularity, as the eyes and temples (Dias et al 2002).
